Debait is the modern public square for civil debate and respectful disagreement
A London based debating club for grassroot level discussions of issues impacting society.
No ragebait, anonymity or shouting. Just thoughtful and curious explorations of topics that shape our lives.
Our sessions are held on the last Saturday of the month with one broad theme each month, professionally facilitated, with the conversation shaped by the people in the room rather than by a predetermined motion.
The July Debait: Trust
Come explore the concept of trust with us by bringing your own unique perspectives and observations on the topic. E.g. What does it mean to you? Should we trust people? Does trust matter?

public debate is broken
Social media rewards outrage over understanding. Comment sections encourage point-scoring, not listening. Important issues are reduced to slogans, tribes and noise.
Many people want to engage – but do not recognise themselves in today’s “debating culture”.
Debait exists to provide an alternative.
OUR SOLUTION
Debait is a small, moderated debating club based in London that gives people at grassroot level an opportunity to discuss issues impacting society.
Each monthly session brings together up to 20 participants to explore one broad theme in a structured, facilitated environment that encourages:
- listening as much as speaking
- curiosity over certainty
- disagreement without disrespect
WHO IS DEBAIT FOR
Debait is for people who:
- care about society and public life
- enjoy thinking critically and listening carefully
- are willing to have their views challenged – and to challenge others respectfully
You do not need to be an expert. You just need to be open, engaged and respectful.
Our mission is to rebuild the culture of civil debate and respectful disagreement. Book a seat
How it works
→ Topical, not reactive
We discuss issues that matter, divide opinions and have an impact on society. We do this without chasing outrage or headlines.
→ Small by design
Sessions are capped at 20 to ensure everyone has space to contribute.
→ Moderated & structured
Clear norms, light facilitation, and shared respect keep discussions productive.
→ In-person, once a month
Our sessions are held on the last Saturday of each month in central London. Please book your place in advance.
The Debait Question
The Debait Question is a monthly article in which we explore fundamental questions that we feel need to be discussed at grassroot level. We do this with curiosity and an open mind.
