public debate is broken
Social media rewards outrage over understanding. Comment sections encourage point-scoring, not listening. Important issues are reduced to slogans, tribes and noise.
Many people want to engage – but do not recognise themselves in today’s “debating culture”.
Debait exists to provide an alternative.
OUR SOLUTION
Debait is a small, moderated debating forum where thoughtful people practise respectful disagreement.
Each session brings together up to 20 participants to explore current issues in a structured, facilitated environment that encourages:
- listening as much as speaking
- curiosity over certainty
- disagreement without disrespect
WHO IS DEBAIT FOR
Debait is for people who:
- care about society and public life
- enjoy thinking critically and listening carefully
- are willing to have their views challenged – and to challenge others respectfully
You do not need to be an expert. You just need to be open, engaged and respectful.
Debait exists to rebuild the culture of respectful disagreement by bringing people together to practise thoughtful, human-scale debate. Book a seat
How it works
respectful disagreement
→ Topical, not reactive
We debate issues that matter – without chasing outrage or headlines.
→ Small by design
Sessions are capped at 20 to ensure everyone has space to contribute.
→ Moderated & structured
Clear norms, light facilitation, and shared respect keep discussions productive.
→ In-person & online
Join us face-to-face or take part remotely in equally structured online sessions.
